This weekend was the city finals for the reading bee and that winner goes on to District. Our youngest went to represent her school - chosen out of 88 kids. 9 other kids participated representing the school they attended. These are 2nd graders only, they are just itty bitty.
How it works is they read 3 different passages out loud and answered 3 questions on each. They are marked on fluency, accuracy, words per minute and comprehension. These kids are readers and the great thing is they are doing it for the love of knowledge and enjoyment. Of the 3 passages they read the first was 7th grade and the other 2 10th grade......and they had to break a tie with 11th grade material. WOW
