bring back the block party.......

Despite the 100+ temperature in the sun, people from all over the neighborhood started to arrive. Something to grill and something to share in hand.

In years gone by this neighborhood had 2 or 3 block parties a year, everyone knew all their neighbor's. Since then a lot of young families have moved in with busy lives.

"Gladis" a very dear friend of mine decided it was long over due to bring back the block party. Invitations made and delived by our kids to 2 full blocks + some across the street from the boundaries blocked off the street, brought out the grills, chairs, and tables and a bit of background music.

I have long admired their gardens, lived in this neighborhood for almost 4 years, and I am ashamed to say had not met a few of the original crew (one couple has lived 53 yrs on my block)
I met my son's and daughter's new teachers next year, no hookie from school in our house. The kids had the entire street to ride bikes on.

So my advice to all of you, have a block party and get to know your neighbor's young and old.
Pictures to follow later today.
